How many years of high blood pressure can cause kidney damage?

Hypertensive nephropathy refers to kidney structure and functional damage caused by essential hypertension, it can be divided into benign hypertensive nephrosclerosis and malignant hypertensive nephrosclerosis. 
The former is due to long-term effects of benign hypertension in the kidney, the latter refers to the kidney damage caused by the development of primary hypertension on the basis of malignant hypertension. 
Benign hypertension in patients with renal sclerosis are more than 40-50 years of age, hypertension history of 5 - 10 years or more. With microalbuminuria, followed by proteinuria, some patients may be a small amount of red blood cells.
